South Australian State Premier, Jay Weatherill has announced that plans have been secured for a AUD$650 million, 150-megawatt solar thermal power plant, to be constructed in Port Augusta, South Australia – to begin construction in 2018. The ‘Aurora’ Solar Thermal plant will pump out 150 megawatts of power, with 8 hours of storage, delivering 495 gigawatt hours of power annually, or 5% of South Australia’s total energy needs – which is equivalent to powering more than 90,000 homes, all while being completely emission free. The site will be located 30 kilometres North of Port Augusta.
