As councils consistently seek to expand and invest in infrastructure, the pressure is building to modernise and integrate new technologies within the energy network. There is also the understanding that integrating sustainable resource infrastructure and methods will increase the attractiveness of the city, as well as productivity and citizen satisfaction. Recently, discussions on smart cities have been leading the charge for change, with the rapid uptake of residential rooftop solar and advances in energy storage solutions, it is likely that all framework and successful support will assist utilities in pursuit of their smart city initiatives.
